During the European Championship, Polish striker Arkadiusz Milik was arguably his national team's best player throughout the competition. It was thanks to him that Poland managed to reach the tournament's round of 16 with a goal and an assist. During his last season playing for Ajax, Milik proved that he can be a true force of nature on the attack after scoring 21 goals in 31 matches with the Dutch giants.
Ajax's director of football Marc Overmars, spoke to the club's official website: "Arek did a great job at Ajax, his goals-per-game ratio says it all. I can only give our scouting team a compliment for bringing him to our attention. We were keen to hold on to him, but we were talking about completely different transfer fees when we agreed that Arek would not leave. Napoli were really keen to sign him and at some stage we reached a point where it became interesting for us financially. Plus Arek himself really wanted to join Napoli. The transfer window is open for another month, so that gives us the opportunity to sign an adequate replacement."
The player was already presented as the main transfer for Napoli this past Tuesday after the attempt to sign Mauro Icardi from Inter didn't come to fruition. The transfer of Gonzalo Higuain will give Napoli a great deal of money influx to arm a more competitive team for the next season, the signing of Milik is just the start in a Neapolitan revolution that will turn them into a serious title contender.
