Napoli defeated Serie B Palermo 5-0 on Thursday, cruising into the Coppa Italia round of 16. Cyril Ngonge scored twice in a thrilling display.
The goalkeeper was left scratching his head in shock when Ngonge opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a left-footed effort that bounced in front of Salvatore Sirigu and squirmed under his body into the net. Five minutes later, Ngonge scored again from a tough angle, sending the ball soaring over the goal and into the side netting to make it 2-0. This time, Sirigu was at fault. Just before the half, Juan Jesus nodded home from a corner to make it 3-0 for Napoli. Palermo had given the hosts a fright when Matteo Brunori struck the post 29 minutes in. However, Napoli were too large, too powerful, and too swift for their second-tier visitors.
