Napoli defeats Roma 1-0

Claudio Ranieri's Giallorossi debut was spoiled as Napoli defeated struggling Roma 1-0 and Romelu Lukaku scored against his old team to recover the Serie A lead. Atalanta, Inter Milan, Fiorentina, and Lazio were all one point behind Napoli. For their sixth straight win, Fiorentina defeated Como 2-0, while Lazio defeated 10-man Bologna 3-0.

Early in the second half at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, Lukaku deflected a cross from Giovanni Di Lorenzo, the captain of Napoli. Later Artem Dovbyk's header struck the crossbar as Roma had a chance to tie the score. Ten days earlier, Ranieri was brought on as Roma's third coach of the season, taking over from Daniele De Rossi, who had been replaced by Ivan Juric. Roma is still four points above the relegation zone in 12th position.
