Newcastle Extend Record with Draw at Bournemouth

Newcastle United set an unwanted record as the first team in Premier League history to open a season with three consecutive 0-0 away draws, after holding Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. Andoni Iraola’s side entered the clash on the back of three straight wins and were eyeing a place as high as second with another victory.

The Cherries thought they had the breakthrough on 16 minutes when David Brooks slotted into an empty net from Evanilson’s cutback, only for VAR to confirm a marginal offside against the winger. Both keepers were tested in the first half, with Nick Pope blocking Tyler Adams’ powerful effort and Djorde Petrovic saving well from Jacob Murphy. Chances continued to come and go, but neither side found the finishing touch, leaving Newcastle’s remarkable run of goalless away stalemates intact.
