The 31-year-old returned from a very lengthy lay-off in November because of an injury. So far for the Magpies he has made 103 appearances and scored 11 goals for them and secured his future with the team.

His contract was expiring at the end of the season and later shared that he is delighted to have signed with the club so is the head coach, Newcastle is one a nine-run winless run across competitions despite having a talented defender on their side.
