Rennes cruised to a 2-0 win over Nice on Saturday, delivering Nice their third defeat in five Ligue 1 games and giving Paris Saint-Germain the opportunity to jump eight points ahead at the top of the standings. Benjamin Bourigeaud put Rennes ahead from the penalty spot a little over 30 minutes in before Arnaud Kalimuendo scored his fourth goal in his previous three games to give the side an emphatic win. Despite their lofty league position, Nice continues to struggle to generate opportunities, scoring only 19 goals in 18 Ligue 1 games.
Earlier, Reims defeated third-placed Monaco 3-1 to move into fifth position. With a win, Adi Huetter's Monaco would have leapfrogged Nice and closed the gap on PSG to four points. But now PSG leads the table with 40 points five more than Nice and seven more than Monaco.
