In an exciting two-half match, Nottingham Forest defeated Brentford 3-1 thanks to goals from Chris Wood and Dan Ndoye, giving the Reds the greatest start to the season. Igor Thiago's penalty kick ended dreams of a clean first weekend after Nuno Espírito Santo's team had taken a 3-0 lead at the conclusion of the first half. Brentford had to settle for Keith Andrews' reorganised team after losing manager Thomas Frank and talisman Bryan Mbeumo.
Brentford needs a different strategy against Aston Villa next time around after dropping to 17th place in the Premier League rankings, while Forest moved into the top five behind Liverpool. Chris Wood scored an outstanding goal from a corner in no less than five minutes. The New Zealand international gathered the ball, landing perfectly at his feet, before instinctively lobbing it over Caoimhin Kelleher to give Forest an encouraging start to their first game of the season.
