The Mexican has played for UDS Salamanca, Osasuna, Arsenal, West Bromwich Albion, Real Sociedad and Los Angeles FC.
“LAFC legend Carlos Vela, announced his retirement from professional football after a brilliant 19-year career. One of the most decorated players in the history of the MLS League and LAFC's all-time leader in games played (152), minutes (11,194), goals (78) and assists (59), Vela won the Most Valuable Player award in 2019, setting a record by registering the highest mark for goals scored in a season (34),” the U.S. club stressed.
The player himself also issued a statement on his social profiles: “Throughout my career I have experienced very special moments, but the time has come to officially retire from professional football".
Vela is leaving football at the age of 35 and will continue as an LAFC Ambassador.
