Barcelona midfielder Oriol Romeu is reportedly set to have his contract terminated in the coming weeks, according to Mundo Deportivo. The 33-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Girona, is no longer in the plans of new manager Hansi Flick.
Romeu recently returned to Barcelona’s training facility, Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, for pre-season medical tests alongside the rest of the squad. However, his presence is not seen as a signal of reintegration into the first team. Once a key figure during his time at Southampton, Romeu returned to Catalonia with hopes of making an impact. But with stiff competition in midfield and Flick’s preference for other options, the club is now expected to part ways with the veteran. An official agreement on terminating his contract could be reached in the coming weeks.
