Pires backs Wenger's football philosophy

One has to understand, that French midfielder Robert Pires and his whole generation were a part of something truly great in football history. It's very rarely that we ever get to experience a team that goes through a whole league season without losing a single match and Arsenal did it back when Pires and Henry were the club leaders. But that success is also thanks to Arsene Wenger's guidance, to all those players the French boss is the best manager in football history.

Now that those days have passed and Wenger keeps getting backlash for not being able to bring the club back to winning big titles, Pires decided to defend him publicly from all critics. After the 4-2 Arsenal Legends victory against Milan Legends, he told the press that: "I believe in this team, this squad, and of course in Arsene Wenger. I know a lot of fans are critical about Arsene. But this is our philosophy, to spend not a lot of money, compared to [Manchester] United, [Manchester] City or Chelsea.

"I think the quality is there. This is my opinion, but when you see all the names at Arsenal, the quality is unbelievable. Because sometimes I am training with the guys and the team is very, very good. We need maybe luck for this season and let's hope and cross our fingers."

Nigeria former international Nwankwo Kanu, also spoke about Wenger: "You know the problem with Arsenal, when you need them, they let you down. I believe they have learned from that. It doesn't matter how good you play football, you need to get the points when it's needed."
