Before he was regarded as a corrupt UEFA official by all the world, Michel Platini was a very respected figure in French football. He was the first really world class player for France who won the European Championship back in 1984. His opinion still counts despite all the problems he's suffered in the past few months, he wanted to give his two cents on the Benzema controversy which is the talk of every sports show in Europe and mainly in France.
According to Platini, Karim Benzema is not a top player, but Benzema has proved several times that he is France's best player right now. Regardless of this, Platini claims that Benzema is not what everybody thinks he is and he wouldn't mind if manager Didier Deschamps doesn't bring him to play for France in the upcoming European Championship they will host this summer. Platini spoke to be IN Sports to talk about the issue.
"It is a good generation that are coming with a coach who knows what he is doing. This will help the French national team to something good. I am more skeptical when it comes to Karim Benzema. There are players who play for the big clubs, but I don't know if you can say that Benzema is a top player. He is very good but the star of Real Madrid is Cristiano."
"Didier Deschamps will decide. Let him decide, he's got my confidence. The Euro 2016 is like one of my children, but I still don't know if I can go. I am suspended by FIFA. It's outrageous, a huge injustice. People want to harm me, it's how it is. Maybe people don't want me to take the reins of the football world because if I did I would make a lot of changes at FIFA."
