In the midst of Kylian Mbappe's ongoing contract battle with Paris Saint-Germain, the Qatari-backed team announced the signing of Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona on a five-year agreement. He is PSG’s ninth summer signing, and the team may soon have to adjust to life without Mbappe after losing Lionel Messi to Inter Miami. Mbappe has refused to sign an extension to his PSG contract, which means he may go for free next year.
The 26-year-old Dembele transferred from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona in 2017 and had his contract extended last year through 2024. The player had a 50 million euro ($54 million) release clause, which PSG used to capture the former Rennes attacker. He joins defenders Milan Skriniar and Lucas Hernandez, midfielders Manuel Ugarte and Cher Ndour, forwards Marco Asensio, Lee Kang-in, and Goncalo Ramos, and goalkeeper Arnau Tenas as the club's ninth summer acquisition.
