Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-1 on Sunday to win a tight Clasico and go five points clear of their fierce rivals at the top of La Liga thanks to a goal from Jude Bellingham. Barcelona won each of the four occasions the clubs faced off, but Xabi Alonso ended that streak in his debut Clásico as Real Madrid's coach.
Bellingham scored a second goal for the home team just before halftime, which proved to be the game-winning goal, although Fermin Lopez tied the score for the visitors at the Santiago Bernabeu after Kylian Mbappe, who subsequently missed a penalty, put Madrid ahead. As emotions erupted in the dying moments, Barca playmaker Pedri was sent for a second yellow card. Alonso's team demonstrated against Barcelona that they can win on the big stage after being humiliated by Atletico Madrid in the September derby. With this victory, Madrid has now won nine of its first ten league games.
