Miguel Gutierrez has won a significant transfer to Serie A winners Napoli following three excellent seasons at Girona. Over the past two seasons, he has drawn interest from several elite European clubs, following a key role for Michel Sanchez's upstart Girona. The deal was confirmed by Napoli on Tuesday and went through for €18 million plus an additional €2 million in variables. Gutierrez is currently recuperating from ankle surgery and should return to action soon.
On loan from Real Madrid, the 24-year-old made his Girona debut three summers ago. Girona then paid €4 million to make the deal permanent. Los Blancos did, however, include a 50% sell-on fee, which means they will receive €9 million from the transaction, with the possibility of an additional €10 million. Real Madrid has doubled its money overall, making a €5 million profit from the transaction.
