Real Madrid thrashed Valencia 5-1

Just before the half, Vinicius Jr. chested in at close range from Rodrygo's cross, then Dani Carvajal scored a fantastic first goal at the near post. Then, 49 minutes in, Vinicius scored his second, curling the ball low into the corner. After grabbing a wayward pass from custodian Giorgi Mamardashvili and slotting it in, Rodrygo finished the demolition by putting a fifth past the Georgian.

With two minutes left, Hugo Duro gave Valencia some hope by tapping the ball in from Hugo Gonzalez's cross. At the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid got off to a quick start as Toni Kroos' free kick struck the crossbar. For the away team, Duro was especially wasteful in the first half, passing up many great opportunities. Before Real seized complete control of the game, the Spanish striker was passed through on goal, but he fired straight at keeper Andriy Lunin and wasted a crucial opportunity at the back post following a precise cross from Pepelu.
