Real Madrid thrashes Celtic with a 5-1 win

Luka Modric and Rodrygo both converted first-half penalties awarded for handballs as Madrid swiftly took a commanding lead. Josip Juranovic missed a penalty kick for the bottom-of-the-group Scots. Early in the second half, Marco Asensio scored the third goal, which proved to be easy for the team that has won 14 times in a row. Vinicius Junior then converted the fourth goal off a cross from Fede Valverde, and the Uruguayan himself added a fifth.

They now have a point advantage over Leipzig, who are in second place after the German team's 4-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk, thanks to Ange Postecoglou's team's spectacular Jota free-kick, which gave them a point back. Madrid was grateful to return to winning ways after suffering their first loss of the season in all competitions against Leipzig last week thanks to Celtic's two helping hands.
