The Basque Country derby resulted in Real Sociedad winning 1-0 over Athletic Bilbao, to stay third on the La Liga table. Sociedad managed to turnaround after three draws and three losses in December. Cristian ``Portu'' Portugues managed to score the only goal of the match giving Sociedad a lead 5 minutes in the game, with an assist from Mikel Oyarzabal, On the table, they stay 6 points behind Atletico Madrid and four points behind Real Madrid.
Bilbao on the other hand traveled down one point to stay 12th on the table as their deprived attacking performance made it smooth sailing for Sociedad, who were already without midfielder David Silva, whose muscle injury put him out of play for a while.
