Just like Karim Benzema has proved in the past, players like him or James Rodriguez are players who require a certain level of trust from their managers and their teammates in order to reach their full potential. Roberto Carlos who played in Real Madrid for over a decade analyzed James' situation, because the Colombian player has been underperforming in the club this season and everybody expects so much more from him.
Talking to the press at an event organized by Mahou, Roberto Carlos explained James' situation: "If James was as bad as some people say, he wouldn't be the Colombia captain. People can discuss about what he does, but he's playing for the best team in the world. He needs affection, I needed it for a time. He has to think about what he can improve. He has to trust on himself, he's a phenomenon. Sometimes Zidane needs him, sometimes he needs Isco. It's his decision. What I see in training is that he's doing very well."
This is the perfect moment for Zidane to show that love to James, with Alvaro Morata recently injured as he will miss both the Madrid derby and El Clasico, James Rodriguez will have a chance to feature and Zidane needs to let him know that he really is an important piece of the puzzle. But for the French manager, all players are important and he has proved it in the past.
