At the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, AS Roma defeated ten-man Monza 1-0 thanks to a goal from Stephan El Shaarawy in the 90th minute, giving the home team its third straight Serie A victory. A tenacious Monza squad, who lost Danilo D'Ambrosio in the 41st minute after receiving a second caution, appeared to keep Roma to a 0-0 draw before El Shaarawy's injury-time goal handed the home club the victory.
Goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio of Monza made two outstanding stops in the first half to avoid AS Roma from grabbing the lead right away. Two times in the second half, AS Roma struck the post, giving the impression that they could blow the chance to win. When AS Roma scored the winning goal, they celebrated wildly, forcing manager Jose Mourinho to fall to his knees. The celebration was cut short, though, as Mourinho was dismissed in stoppage time.
