Romania - Slovakia: Both qualified after tense draw

Both Slovakia and Romania advanced to the round of 16 following a tight 1-1 draw in their last Group E match. After playing without a change in the first two games, Slovakia made a move yesterday, starting striker David Strelec in place of Robert Bozenik.

Coach Edward Iordanescu made two changes to Romania's squad from the one that lost 2-0 to Belgium. Ianis Hagi, the son of legendary Romanian Gheorghe, was brought in to replace Dennis Man in an offensive substitution. Lukas Haraslin's free kick almost slipped in at the far post, going through a mass of men and putting Slovakia within inches from taking the lead. Romania disregarded the warning, and Slovakia took the lead in the twenty-fourth minute. With the Romanian defense frozen in place, Juraj Kucka sent in a deep cross that allowed Ondrej Duda, who was unmarked, to forcefully head the ball beyond Florin Nita from eight yards out.
