With Renato Sanches' arrival, Bayern Munich has many competitive players in the same position, this puts things very difficult for Bastian Schweinsteiger who is currently looking for a new destination to play. Manchester United and Jose Mourinho have already left clear, that they are not counting on him to play with the Red Devils and he should look for a new destination. The Portuguese coach even sent him to play with the youth academy while he finds a new club.
Soon after people knew about his situation, speculation started coming forth about his possible return to Bayern Munich. But in order to silence those rumors, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the press that the club is not interested in bringing back a player who is already in the twilight of his career. Actually, the history Bastian has with the club is not important in this case because it's a matter of business. There is no way they will get a player back without the certainty that he will bring something useful to the team.
Talking at a media conference during Mats Hummels and Renato Sanches presentation, Rummenigge was questioned about Bastian: "I would like to remind you that one year ago Bastian Schweinsteiger asked me especially to provide him with the experience [to join United]. I regret that what is happening to him just now, but we have not entertained any thought of getting him back. It is not an easy time for him just now, but maybe it is also proof that we deal with issues a bit more humanely, a bit more fairly and with more respect here at Bayern than is the case in some of the other bigger clubs in Europe."
