San Marino was not able to pick up their first victory since 2004, however, a 93rd-minute equaliser made them secure a 1-1 tie against Saint Lucia in the World Cup friendly. Saint Lucia is ranked 172nd and welcomed San Marino for the first of two friendly games to be played in Gros Islet. The small Caribbean nation started off on a strong note and gained the lead on the half-hour mark through Donovan Baptiste.
San Marino slotted the ball in the back of the net just three minutes later, although their attempt was barred out for offside. The European outfit enhanced themselves in the second half, but they grappled to seek a breakthrough as they seemed to be heading for their eighth defeat from nine games in 2022. However, Lorenzo Lazzari shot a 93rd-minute goal to equalise the game and save face.
