Santa Cruz thinks Messi is mistreated by Argentines

It's funny because there is a lot of people from Argentina who have always defended Messi from compatriots who tend to roughly criticize the player for not performing with his country at the same level he does with Barcelona. But this doesn't have anything to do with his commitment to the team, it has more to do with the teammates he has and how hard it is for him not playing the same position he does at Barcelona. But to see people from other countries defend him from his own compatriots, is something truly surreal to see.

Paraguay striker Roque Santa Cruz, still can't understand why it is that many Argentine's keep pushing Messi away with criticism and backlash for not being able to win big trophies with his country. He has proved that winning these trophies is out of his hands completely, so hearing his own people talk down to him and asking him to work harder than he already does is something Roque just can't understand.

He told Omnisport: "I think Messi found his place - I think it is the Argentine public's pressure that still talks about a Messi that is not the same one at Barcelona.  Having seen him at different tournaments and competitions I can say that he is always one of the best and performs at a high level. But he still must win a title with Argentina to be close to what the Argentine public thinks he can achieve."

About his country's chances for this Copa America, he said: "Paraguay are always a very solid team, very strong and very sacrificed. Once again they are regaining the level we had a couple years back, so it is a Copa America that we are all going to play wanting to win it. That will be our main target.  Argentina are always a candidate for what they have, Messi and a lot of other players performing at the best leagues. Brazil are not going through a very good moment but besides that they always have great players. Also Colombia and Chile can be candidates as well because of the moment they are living and the players they have."
