According to L’Équipe, Al-Ittihad are keen to bring Deschamps in in the future, although any deal is still a long way off. The Frenchman is preparing for what could be his last World Cup as France coach this summer, and is reluctant to discuss his next steps until it is over.
The 57-year-old coach has recently mentioned “contacts” with Saudi Arabia and has not ruled out the possibility of working there one day.
If Deschamps joins Al-Ittihad, he will be reunited with N’Golo Kante, the 2018 World Cup winner who is still part of the French national team. A reunion with Karim Benzema is also possible, even if their past relationship has had its difficulties. However, by the time Deschamps could arrive in the summer, neither Benzema nor Kante may be there, their contracts with Al-Ittihad expire on June 30.
