A lot of people seem to think that Paul Pogba is an overrated player, although he can be considered among the very best midfielders in the world, paying €120 million seems very excessive for a lot of people. Football figures like Paul Scholes who is a Red Devil to the bone, have already given their opinion on Paul Pogba's elevated price and think that it's a bad idea to pay so much money for any player. Plus United has never really been the kind of team that pays a lot of money for anyone, they had always been the team that sold players for record breaking deals.
Talking to reporters, Scholes remembered Pogba's past as a youngster back in United: "He was a very talented player. I played with him quite a lot. If you ask me, at that time his agent was asking for a lot of money for a player who did not play first-team football except once or twice. Okay, he has gone on to great things and there was a massive improvement in him. I just don't think he is a player worth £100m-plus right now. For that money, you would need a player who scores 50-plus goals a season, like Ronaldo or Messi. Pogba is not there yet."
Scholes is also a man who is very tough to please, the new arrivals including Mourinho still have a lot to prove according to him: "I haven't seen much of Mkhitaryan but he seems to be a good player. With Ibrahimovic, he was playing at PSG and there were a lot of chances created and it was easy to score in that league. Is the United team as good as the PSG team? Not yet, maybe it will be. So in this league, he will have to do a lot himself to score goals."
Being a midfielder and all, Scholes praised Manchester City for being able to get Ilkay Gundogan for such a low price: "He is a very good player if he can stay fit. I have seen a lot of him with Dortmund. He has had a lot of injury problems but he can be fantastic if he can be fit. [Buying Gundogan] for about €20m - that's a steal, these days.
