Everton's longest-serving player, Seamus Coleman, was forced to leave Goodison Park early due to an injury, thus his final farewell did not proceed as planned. Just eighteen minutes into the poignant match against Southampton—the final match Everton will ever play at their storied home field before moving to the newly renamed Hill Dickinson Stadium next season—the Toffees captain seemed to have an ankle injury.
Coleman was just making his fifth Premier League appearance of the season, but Everton supporters unanimously agreed that he should wear the armband for the emotional match. His trip would stop early, though, as he motioned to the bench to be pulled, and Ashley Young took his place as he sprinted directly down the tunnel. Coleman will continue to play for Everton in the upcoming campaign, according to Moyes.
