Senegal sink Morocco in controversial final to claim AFCON glory

Senegal make history by winning the AFCON 2025 title after defeating Morocco in the final in Rabat. In a match in which Bono saved his team several times with great saves, it seemed that the final was going to go Regragui's way after the referee awarded Morocco a controversial last-minute penalty against Brahim Diaz.

The Senegalese players threatened to abandon the match and went to the dressing room, but finally returned to the pitch to see Brahim miss his penalty after attempting a Panenka.

Pape Gueye smashed the ball into the top corner with a powerful shot from the edge of the area in the first half of extra time to put his team ahead against all odds. The Atlas Lions came close to equalising in the second half of extra time, but the Lions of Teranga still managed to hold on to the result to claim the title.
