At Stadio Artemio Franchi on Saturday, Fiorentina overcame a goal deficit to upset Roma 2-1 despite Stephan El Shaarawy giving the guests the lead. Fiorentina controlled possession as the second half got underway, just like the first. Jose Mourinho made a number of adjustments in an effort to stabilise the defence. The Viola would be rewarded for their perseverance, though, as Luka Jovic and Jonathan Ikone scored two late goals to cap a stirring comeback.
While Fiorentina fielded a significantly rotated team following their 2-1 loss to Inter in the Coppa Italia final midweek, Roma were far from at full strength here. Both clubs have now turned their attention to their respective European championships, but if Roma had won here, they would have still had a chance to be in the top four.
