After losing the first leg at San Mames in front of their crowd, Athletic Club Bilbao wanted to make amens at the Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in Sevilla. All the Basque team needed was a 2-1 victory in order to sent the tier to over time, the first half was extremely disputed as neither side was able to make a huge difference in a very defensive match where both teams showed to be really nervous. Both sides were expecting to make a better impact than the start of the game.
The magical moment came after the second half began through Aritz Aduriz who managed to get Athletic into the game with a long rage shot the goalkeeper wasn't able to stop on the 56th minute of the match. Two minutes later, Kevin Gameiro scored the equalizer after a cross from the right and gave the match even more drama. But ten minutes before the end of the match, it was Raul Garcia who sent the match to over time with a strong header for the 2-1 victory and 3-3 aggregate result.
The over time was even more difficult for both sides as they were extremely tired, the match seemed to be heading towards the penalties. At the end, Sevilla managed to win the game from the spot with a Gameiro elegant shot that left the score line 5-4 for the local squad. Athletic deserved to win it too, but at the end the fans played their part perfectly in Sevilla's favor.
In other results, Shakhtar defeated Braga at home 4-0 with a final 6-1 aggregate result and got the pass to semifinals. Villarreal also won their match 4-2 against Sparta Praha 4-2 with a final 6-3 aggregate result.
