Sevilla sack Almeyda unable to stabilise performances

Sevilla have dismissed head coach Matías Almeyda after a poor run that has left the club only three points above the relegation zone. The decision was confirmed on Monday, less than two days after a 2–0 home defeat to Valencia triggered open protests at the Ramón Sánchez‑Pizjuán, where supporters demanded immediate change.

Almeyda departs after 32 matches, recording 10 wins, seven draws and 14 defeats across all competitions. Sevilla sit 16th in La Liga with 31 points, having struggled for consistency and failed to establish any real authority at home. Appointed last summer, the Argentine was unable to halt the team’s slide, and his tenure ends with the club still firmly embroiled in the relegation battle.

According to EFE, Sevilla have begun discussions with Luis García Plaza as a leading candidate, while former coaches Manolo Jiménez and Diego Martínez are also under consideration as the club seeks stability.
