Sheffield United defeated by Aston Villa (0-1)

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder called out at VAR, questioning their decision over the controversial defeat faced by them, Sheffield United lost to Aston Villa by 0-1 with Ezri Konsa scoring the winning goal for Aston in the second period after The Blades lost their defender John Egan to a red card. He had presumably pulled back Ollie Watkins to deny a clear goalscoring opportunity to Aston Villa. Later on, Blades got an opportunity for a comeback but Matt Targett tripped Chris Basham in the area, and John Lundstram failed to score. Wilder had expected Targett would be shown a red card but it didn’t happen.

Wilder was convinced the goal had crossed the line and goal-line technology failed to register that. The Blades are without a point after their first two games, following their opening-day defeat to Wolves.
