He already announced four months ago that he would not return to play for his national team, but now, seeing that he has not been able to find a peaceful destination for this season, he has decided to hang up his boots.
Former Denmark captain and Sevilla player Simon Kjaer announced on Monday his retirement from professional football at the age of 35. Kjaer, who had already left the national team after the last European Championship, was without a team after finishing his contract with Milan, with whom he played the last four seasons.
“Now was the right time to close this chapter,” said the player in an interview with the channel ‘TV2’.
In his long professional career, he wore the jersey of, among others, Palermo, Roma, Atalanta, Milan, Wolfsburg, Lille and Sevilla (2017-2019). With Denmark, he made 132 appearances, the 2nd most capped after Christian Eriksen.
