Slovakia beat wasteful Belgium, with Lukaku on bad terms

An early goal arrived for Slovakia to surprise some overly wasteful Belgians, with Lukaku missing several opportunities and seeing two goals disallowed.

An eternal candidate to go far in major competitions, Belgium had a start to Euro 2024 to forget. Too wasteful in the finishing phase, they found themselves surprisingly defeated by Slovakia. A solitary goal from Schranz after just seven minutes arrived to make the difference.

The first dangerous move of the game was paradigmatic of what was to be seen throughout the match, with Romelu Lukaku failing in the small area, allowing the Slovak goalkeeper to save when he had everything to score. But Doku, who had been at the origin of that move, made a deciding mistake already shortly after, losing the ball in a prohibited zone, and it was Slovakia who scored, just seven minutes into the game.
