Sporting CP thrashed 4-1 Man City
06.11.24 / 12:00
Amorim led the Portuguese champions to a historic victory in what was both his last game in European play and his last home game as manager of Manchester United. Phil Foden gave Sporting the lead early on, but Viktor Gyökeres quickly ran on to Geovany Quenda's through pass to finish just before halftime.
Four minutes after the restart, Maximiliano Araújo gave them the lead, and Gyökeres' penalty kick made it 3-1, putting the game out of City's grasp. A very dreary night for City, but a memorable one for the hosts, saw the Swede complete his hat-trick with another penalty. After losing to Bournemouth last weekend and Tottenham in the EFL Cup last week, Pep Guardiola's team has now dropped three straight games.
