Spurs plan midfield transfer strategy for next year

Johnny Cardoso, a midfielder for Real Betis and the United States, is available for a potential £21 million transfer to Tottenham Hotspur next year, according to the Spanish team's president. Giovani Lo Celso, an Argentine midfielder, was moved by the Lilywhites to his previous club on a permanent basis as part of their late summer transfer window transaction.

Lo Celso's 2020 transfer to North London was previously arranged by Betis and Tottenham, but the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder was ultimately unable to succeed in the Premier League. In addition to talking about the Lo Celso deal, Tottenham and Betis reportedly discussed USA international Cardoso, for whom Tottenham were rumored to have negotiated an unusual transfer arrangement. Tottenham is said to have agreed on a first-refusal option worth €25 million (£21.1 million) for the 22-year-old. Now, Tottenham will have two weeks in 2025 to activate their clause, as opposed to signing Cardoso on loan for the 2024–25 season and keeping the option or duty to make his stay permanent.
