Spurs reportedly made a formal approach for Rios

With an official bid made for Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios, who is regarded as a major improvement over Yves Bissouma, Tottenham Hotspur's January transfer market is heating up. The North London team has previously signed young players and is looking to add more, so this transfer is part of boss Ange Postecoglou's plan to strengthen his injury-prone roster.

Tottenham has shown a strong desire to restructure their midfield under Postecoglou, especially in light of Bissouma's patchy performances. Spurs reportedly made a formal approach for Rios, but Palmeiras first turned it down because of their impending FIFA Club World Cup commitments, according to a report by Italian media site Arena Napoli.  Rios is notable for his flexibility as a box-to-box player and a holding midfielder, in addition to his strong physical presence at 6' 2". His style of play may provide Tottenham's lineup a fresh perspective.
