After losing their opening match against hosts France, Romania needed to win this second game against Switzerland. The Swiss on the other hand, didn't really have a lot of pressure on them because they won their first match against Albania. Parc des Princes in Paris was ready for this clash, during the first half Switzerland was the clear boss of the game but Romania was the side that got ahead in the score sheet first.
On the 18th minute a Romanian player was pulled down from his shirt and a penalty was awarded for them. Stancu stepped up confidently and swoop the ball into the bottom-left corner for a surprising Romania first goal. The first half ended with this Romanian advantage, but the Swiss weren't going to throw the towel just yet, their game dominance would eventually pay off during the second half, all they needed was to keep playing the same way and be a little patient.
It took the Swiss, just 12 minutes into the second half to get that equalizer. Mehmedi managed to score a beautiful volley from inside the box, he lashed a bouncing ball through a crowded area inside the right post and celebrated like crazy with all his teammates. After this goal, Switzerland played with less pressure and started combining wonderfully. They were out for the second goal, but Romania was well organized in the back, they weren't going to let the Swiss get that winning goal so easily. At the end it was a point for each side.
