Stéphane Demol, a former Belgian central defender who played for FC Porto, died Thursday, aged 57, from cardiac arrest, according to the Belgian press.
Demol was champion of the dragons, a club he represented in 1989/1990, in a year that stood out for the 12 goals scored in 39 games. He was one of the penalty takers for the blue and whites.
The dragons have already reacted to the death of the old central.
"A defender who also scored goals. A champion. A Dragon. One of us. Until forever, Stéphane Demol!", can be read in the message left by FC Porto on Twitter.
In addition to FC Porto, the former Belgian international represented SC Braga in Portugal, in the 1994/1995 season, but only played three games.
Stéphane Demol was in the Belgium team that was in the 1986 World Cup, and that reached the semi-finals.
