There’s no easing off for Girona in the Spanish league

Girona moved one point clear of Real Madrid after the latter triumphed 2-1 against Las Palmas on Saturday thanks to a goal from Portu in the first half. Girona has played one more game than Madrid. Girona was coming off a Copa del Rey loss 3-2 away to Mallorca, which halted its 17-match winning streak across all competitions and prevented the team from making it to the tournament's quarterfinals for the first time. The team's lone other league defeat this year was in September at home against Madrid.

With 52 goals, Girona's offence leads the tournament and the team has won 17 of its 22 league games. With 45 goals, no other team has exceeded them. Though Míchel's club has triumphed in six of its previous eight league games, it faces a difficult run of games against Real Sociedad, Madrid, and Athletic Bilbao, which are ranked sixth, second, and fifth, respectively.
