Deportivo Toluca claimed their third CONCACAF Champions Cup on Saturday, defeating Tigres UANL 6‑5 on penalties after a gripping 1‑1 draw that stretched through extra time. Goalkeeper Luis García emerged as the decisive figure, capping a superb performance with the save that denied Juanjo Purata and secured the trophy. García had already kept Toluca alive with a series of outstanding stops, including a remarkable late double save from Romulo and André‑Pierre Gignac.
Toluca struck first in extra time when substitute Jorge Díaz spun away from the defence and fired past Nahuel Guzmán after 104 minutes. The celebration was short‑lived, as Joaquim’s towering header levelled the match in the 114th minute. The shoot‑out brought further drama: Franco Romero missed a potential winner before Tigres forced sudden death. Ultimately, Purata’s weak attempt allowed García to complete his heroic night and deliver Toluca’s first continental triumph since 2003.
