The Granata have had a mixed bag of results in the first few months of the season, with victories against Genoa, Salernitana, and Lecce offset by defeats to Milan, Lazio, Juventus, and Inter. Sassuolo have had a poor run of form, picking up only two points in their previous four games after surprising wins against the table's top two clubs, the Nerazzurri and Bianconeri.

Torino got off to a fast start, taking the lead after only five minutes thanks to a rapid counterattack completed by a charging Antonio Sanabria. In an unexpected turn of events, Sassuolo equalized in the 18th minute when Domenico Berardi nicked the ball and sent a pass across the box to Kristian Thorstvedt, who thundered a shot into the top corner. In the 68th minute Nikola Vlasic, whose clever positioning allowed him to get into the area and send a shot under Andrea Consigli, restoring the home side's lead.
