Placing Neymar above historic players such as Ronaldo or Romario is something only a true historian could do, there is no one better to make this bold statement than a man who actually played next to King Pele himself. Tostao is one of Brazil's most revered players in history, he's been around to watch the very best in the country's history. Which is why maybe we should listen to him when he compares Neymar to some of the most impressive forwards in Brazilian football's history.
We already know that surpassing Pele is impossible, not even Messi looks like he will be able to do that. But when Tostao talks about Neymar, he already talks about the Barcelona star as a better player than Brazilians Ronaldo and Romario. Talking to El Pais, Tostao said: "I do not know whether Neymar will become the best player in the world, but there is no doubt about it that he is a phenomenon and a spectacular player. He has all the skills an attacker needs to have. He shoots well, is intelligent, passes well, draws fouls and is very fast. He might not be there just yet, but he can become Brazil's greatest ever since Pele.
"He is better than Romario and Ronaldo, more complete. He has it all. Romario and Ronaldo were great at certain specific things. He is not the best in the world right now because of the presence of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. But he is better than others who were the best in the world in their days, like Rivaldo, Kaka and Luis Figo. Of course, he still has room for improvement, but his figures are impressive."
