By the end of 2022, the Friulani had lost their early vigour, recording just five draws in their final seven games, and had also sold Bram Nuytinck to Sampdoria. Francesco Caputo returned to Empoli and was inserted right away into the starting lineup due to injuries to Mattia Destro and Lorenzo Tonelli. It took Caputo a few minutes to make his impression. He moved to the right and pulled back from the byline, setting up Tommaso Baldanzi for a six-yard goal.

Beto's shot was deflected off-target, and another soaring header from him went over the crossbar. Walace's fierce volley was just inches wide, and Tolgay Arslan, who received an assist from Destiny Udogie, also missed the target. Guglielmo Vicario was able to get enough on Roberto Pereyra's long-range attempt to turn it onto the upright after it bounced directly in front of the goalie.
