Uruguay beats Ghana

As Uruguay headed toward a heartbreaking World Cup loss, Luis Suarez was unable to watch. He raised his hands to shield his eyes before pulling his shirt over his head. His tears were visible when his face reappeared. The Uruguay captain watched his team defeat Ghana 2-0 on Friday from the dugout after being replaced, but his squad was still eliminated from the tournament by a goal in stoppage time in another game.

Suarez departed the game in the 66th minute with Uruguay poised to reach the World Cup knockout round for the fourth time in a row. Giorgian De Arrascaeta of Uruguay scored twice after Ghana captain Andre Ayew had missed a penalty in the 21st minute, and he had major involvement in both of those goals. Suarez's shot resulted in De Arrascaeta's first goal in the 26th minute. Six minutes later, De Arrascaeta volleyed in the second after Suarez had set it up with a deft pass.
