Uruguay became under-20 world champion for the first time

An accurate header by Luciano Rodríguez, in the 86th minute, earned Uruguay an unprecedented under-20 football world title on Sunday, in the final against Italy, in La Plata, Argentina. Israel ended the race in 3rd place, after beating South Korea 3-1.

In a game in which they were always more offensive, the 'celeste' formation resolved the game following a corner taken on the right, with several rebounds, the last one within reach of the Liverpool player from Montevideo, who beat Desplanches.

The goal ended up living up to the fact that Uruguay was, by far, the team with the most shots (15 attempts), against an Italy that only made two shots, both from outside the area.

Uruguay won the title in the third final, after defeats in 1997 against Argentina and in 2013 against France.
