Valencia ended the visitors' 14-game undefeated streak in all competitions. Hugo Duro's 61st-minute strike from a Jose Gaya cross won a game with limited opportunities in which Athletic lacked energy following a hectic January.

Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili performed well as well he saved Unai Gomez’s goal as Athletic pushed for an equalizer in a game with only one crucial moment. Real Sociedad defeated Celta Vigo 1-0 thanks to a goal from Brais Mendez in the 11th minute. Mendez fired a powerful drive from beyond the box that beat Celta goalkeeper Vincente Guaita, and the midfielder also struck the post in the second half. Villarreal's season continues without a break after being held to a 1-1 draw at home against Mallorca. Alexander Sorloth scored for Villarreal on the stroke of halftime, but Javi Llabres salvaged a point for the visitors with an acrobatic finish in the final minute of the game.
