In their first game under new manager Ruben Baraja, struggling Valencia fell 1-0 at Getafe on Monday, their sixth consecutive loss overall and their fifth straight in Spain's La Liga. Getafe's barren run of seven games in all competitions came to an end when striker Borja Mayoral scored his first goal since January in the 82nd minute, lifting the team out of the relegation zone, if only on goal differential.
The defeat left Valencia in last place, two points away from safety, and is anticipated to intensify fan protests against Singaporean owner Peter Lim. After the game, several fans at Coliseum Alfonso Perez Stadium in Madrid brandished placards reading "Lim Go Home," and captain Gabriel Paulista went to talk to them. Gabriel Paulista added, "They have to be with us all the way."
