It was a difficult last couple of weeks for Sevilla FC and manager Jorge Sampaoli, who despite having played decent football against both Real Madrid and Barcelona, lost to both sides. But the real level they will have throughout this season could be shown this past Saturday at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium as Espanyol visited them for La Liga's opening match. Sampaoli's side won 6-4 in a crazy action packed match. Argentine forward Luciano Vietto who scored a brace out of his team's six goals, expects the team to get better and fight for a spot in next year's Champions League.
Vietto told Sevilla's website that: "The important thing was to get three points and start the season with a joy in our field. With our fans we are stronger and we are excited with the match and the result. It is the idea imposed on us by the coaching staff. Although we have to correct some things that will take us a while, we try to correct those mistakes that cost us some goals today."
The player had already rejected FC Barcelona and decided to play for Sevilla after Atletico Madrid told him that he wouldn't play for many minutes there either. Sampaoli offered him a starring role and this past Saturday it was proven that he has everything to become the best player at the Andalusian club: "It is very good that the team found many goals. Out there in previous games we had not," Vietto finished.
