Aston Villa have completed the signing of Swiss international Johan Manzambi from Freiburg in a club‑record €70 million deal, securing the 20‑year‑old midfielder on a five‑year contract through 2031. The move marks a decisive investment as Unai Emery’s side prepares for the heightened demands of next season’s Champions League campaign.

Following the departures of Youri Tielemans, Barrenechea and Malen, Villa moved quickly to reinvest, targeting one of Europe’s standout breakout talents. Manzambi enjoyed a superb season in Germany, making 47 appearances, scoring seven goals and providing six assists while helping Freiburg reach the Europa League quarter‑finals. His rise continued at the World Cup, where he delivered a brace against Bosnia, added a goal and assist versus Canada, and set up another in the win over Algeria before injury halted his tournament.

Villa view Manzambi as a long‑term pillar of their project, combining elite potential with proven big‑stage impact.
