Arsenal played against Hull City in the FA Cup while the Champions League matches were being played, the Gunners qualified to the quarterfinals of the oldest club tournament in the world. The victory came due to doubles from Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott, with a little help from Costa Rican forward Joel Campbell who had a stand out performance. But the victory was stained by the injuries of Per Mertesacker who had to leave the field after a head clash with a rival. Gabriel whose muscular pains don't seem serious and Aaron Ramsey who injured his thigh during the match. Wenger spoke about these three players and Giroud's performance in the press conference after the match.
"Mertesacker has a cut on his eye so he should be fine. Ramsey's looks most serious. We have great confidence in the squad. Giroud's goal will help him and give him euphoria. I made the decision to play him because he always wants to play. Is this cup important to me? Do you know someone who has won it more than me? There's your answer. What matters now is our next game which is Watford on Sunday afternoon. I would have loved to have played on Saturday."
Despite the victory, Arsenal needed at least Mertesacker and Ramsey, but all three of them are considered players from the starting eleven. The stand alone performance of many players this night was another thing to point out, Wenger used a lot of substitutes and they responded very well to the call. At the end of the day what matter is that they are still opting for silverware at least in the FA Cup.
